* American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons
The AAOS site has a lot of interesting information, including an exercise program for low back pain.

* Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP)
The AAP promotes the advancement of teaching and research in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

* AAPM&R
The American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation is a national society representing over 5000 physiatrists. The site contains a lot of information for its members. It has a feature that allows you to search for a physiatrist in your area, although the database appears to include only its members, i.e., it is not comprehensive.

* American Medical Association
An extensive site that provides information on the AMA, its mission and members, along with abstracts from JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association).

* American Physical Therapy Association
APTA is a national, professional organization representing more than 75,000 members. The site appears geared towards Physical Therapy professionals.

* Ask Alice
Columbia University Health Question & Answer Service. "Alice" answers questions about relationships; sexuality; sexual health; emotional health; fitness; nutrition; alcohol, nicotine, and other drugs; and, general health. The site boasts a database of over 1400 questions and answers.

* Disability.com
Contains a host of links to disability resources.

* Health Finder (US Government)
Healthfinder is a gateway consumer health and human services information web site from the United States government. HealthFinder can lead you to selected online publications, clearinghouses, databases, web sites, and support and self-help groups, as well as the government agencies and not-for-profit organizations that produce reliable information for the public. This is an excellent starting point for patient in search for medical information.

* Netforum for Physiatrists at Washington University
A web-based forum for physiatrists. There are few messages at this point; hopefully, the volume will pick up.

* Mayo Clinic Health Oasis
An excellent site with reliable information on various diseases and conditions. It covers men's, women's, and children's health, as well as topics in alternative medicine. There's also a glossary of medical terms. Highly recommended.

* MEDLINE free search from HealthGate
healthgate.com allows you to search the biomedical database MEDLINE, You can search and retrieve article titles and abstracts for free. Ordering the full article text costs about $30 US.

* MedSite Navigator
A travel gateway to Internet resources for health care and biomedical science

* Muscular Dystrophy Association
As expected, a good resource for information on neuromuscular diseases.

* National Multiple Sclerosis Society
Extensive information about MS, treatments, research, and local MS chapters.

* Proservices
Free database of health questions and answers on numerous topics organized by specialty.

* RXList - The Internet Drug Index
Search for drug data, including interactions, dosage, and overdose treatments.

* Understanding Acute Low Back Problems in Adults
Published by a non-Federal panel of experts sponsored by the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research.

* The Virtual Hospital (Iowa University College of Medicine)
Provides patient care support and distance learning to practicing physicians and other healthcare professionals. Excellent resources! Patients should check out the Iowa Health Book which provides information to the general public on a variety of health issues.

* WebMedLit
A new web resource which tracks updates to 18 medical journals on the web and builds topical views from the combined tables of contents. Topical views also feature links to related news stories from PR Newswire. The journals are scanned daily and the site is updated as new content appears.

* Yahoo! Health: Diseases and Conditions Index Page
Hierarchical listing of resources for various diseases and conditions.
