antidepressants and weight gain

Age: 44   Sex: F   Concern: pamelor & elavil  

I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and have been on a couple of different antidepressants (pamelor & elavil). I have gained a tremendous amount of weight ( 60 lbs.) and was wondering if the antidepressants have anyhing to do with that and if they do why? Also will taking antidepressants make it hard for me to lose weight? All this weight has made me depressed.

Yes, I have heard this complaints from several of my patients. It is probably not the sole reason for your weight gain.
