What treatment is best for sciatic nerve pain?

Q:
Age: 36   Sex: F

I have recently suffered from sciatic nerve pain. The Chiropractor did an adjustment and told me "apply ice, no heat, no hot water". The following day, a holiday, still in terrible pain I went to the emergency room and was told "apply heat, hot towels, soak in the tub." What is best heat or ice? Please suggest any other treatments that would be helpful. Thank You.

A:
A good comprehensive lumbar stabilization excercise program would be helpful. Close follow ups with your physicians to make sure one does not have neurologic deterioration is a must. A spine doctor can design a rehab program to suit your case.
