Osteoid Osteoma Tumor removal

Q:
Age: 45   Sex: F   Concern: Osteoid Osteoma tumor in the facet joint

Dr. Tran,

My 17 year old daughter has recently been diagnosed with Osteoid Osteoma tumor in the L1 L2 facet joint. Is it necessary to have a spinal fusion after removal of the tumor? Im worried about her back being unstable after surgery.

Thanks You

A:
It depends on how much bone and joint are removed. That decision might only be made at the time of the operation.
