Status post C-7 fracture

Q:
Age: 54   Sex: F   Concern: Spinal cord injury

My son is 22 and shattered his C-7 in April 2008. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center and underwent surgery with placement of a titanium plate, fusion. He was released for full activity at three months. He continues to have pain in his neck, his right arm, and his 4th and 5th fingers tingling and with numbness on his right hand. Is this normal? Will this continue indefinitely? Should he really be resuming FULL activity?

Thank you. Janet

A:
You should let his doctor know. I would be very hesitant to let him participate in full sport activities.
