HOW DO I KNOW I CAN TRUST MY DR. ?

Q:
Age: 32   Sex: M   Concern: SURGERY

hello dr. tran. if it were yourself or a family member. what would you expect from your experince with a back surgeon? i am scheduled for spinal fusion surgery in less than 60 days. and i feel i have reason to question the relability of my dr.. i have had a second opinion. and come to find out he is afiliated with my original dr.. how should i feel about that?

-- MIAH

A:
Spine surgery for leg pain has a 90% success rate. Surgery for back pain is about 50%. Unfortunately, surgeons in the same city most often share the same philosophy. If you have any doubts, get a second opinion from a non-surgeon. I don't know anything about your case so I can't advise you.
