Bulged disk at L5 & S1, pain manageable, only

Age: 32   Sex: M   Concern: Chronic pain  

I have tingling in foot and lower left leg with weakness following diagnosis of a bulged disk at L5/S1. Do I have to have surgery? Where is a good source of information that I can follow to get back on track.
