L5-S1 Disk extrusion

Q:
Age: 20   Sex: M   Concern: Sports injuries

I have been having extreme Back pain since the 1st of april 2001 and it is now August 1st 2001 and I am scheduled to have surgery on the 16th. I am seeking other alternatives. I have been having normal symptom's for this particular Extrusion pain going all the way down my right leg and most of the pain is in my butt. I have been experiencing tingling like when you foot falls a sleep. I have had to steriod shots. The first shot didn't help at all an the second releaved the pain somewhat..but not completely for about 5 or 6 days and now it is hurt the worst it has every felt but i have not lost strength in my leg. I am seeking other options and if i can not find them I will proceed with surgery....by the way the doctor that diagnoised it from an mri reading said it is the largest extrusion he has every seen. what is you opinion??

A:
Sounds like conservative measures have failed. If you don't have any progressive neurologic loss, you have time for a second opinion. Good luck.
